Bored, therefore I blog.

I am bored. Its sort of pathetic when on the days I actually don't have to work I would rather be working. I need an occupation for my off-time! There is no snow in the mountains so I am unable to board, and I was so worried about falling behind on my homework when Cornbelly's starts that I actually got ahead. So! Excuses they may be, but these are my reasons for re-visiting my blahhhhhhhhhh-g.

I call it my blahhhhhhhhh-g because I was forced by my evil/totally awesome Internship Advisor/Public Relations and Society Instructor to start one last year. If you read earlier posts you'll probably be like, "What!?? I don't get it- what is she talking about?" Well, I was responding to class discussions for a grade. Grade given? A! WHAT-WHAT!! Once the semester was over I was so donezo! But I guess Twitter and Facebook can only give one so much satisfaction. I will now re-visit my blahhhhhhh-g regulary to give you all updates on my blahhhhhh life. I don't have a handsome husband, cute kids, or even an adorable boyfriend to be all precious and bloggy about so bear with me!

Twitter, bringing us peons closer to. . . uh. . . not peons? Ha ha
.

Early this week, though life was rather blah I got personal Tweets from my Christopher Carrabba!?? Lead singer and totally swooney/handsome front-man from Dashboard Confessional? Yes-yes! I did. Well that made an already perky blonde even perkier!

The "Tweets" went something like this:
Chris: PS releasing demos is sort of embarrassing because they are never meant for you to hear.
Me: Ah! But we love and appreciate you for your art.
Chris: (DIRECT TO ME) Thanks!

GIDDY!!!

Chris: In the airport drinking wine from a red plastic cup.
Me: Heaven is Here.
Chris: (DIRECT TO ME) I know that tune!

GIDDY MORE!!!

These tweets will never be deleted from my phone. They are copied to my memory card and locked. I love you Christopher Carrabba(isn't he dreamy??). New Dashboard album out November 10th!

Bam! Culture Jam!

This will be short but I hope it still counts as I have not missed ONE SINGLE BLOG and am not rushing to catch up... *ahem* :)

I realized today that in my own way I have been a "Culture Jammer" for awhile now. I may not be photo-shopping ads or changing products and then putting them back on the shelves, but I do have a habit of turning things around. By this I mean literally changing something from back to front, or covering it up if I don't agree with it, if I feel it is being shoved down my throat, or if it is propaganda.

I'll do it to magazines, books, movies- whatever! One time I was at Blockbuster and I turned a whole wall of movies over so that they weren't seen any longer. Go me! Ha ha. People stood around laughing and actually enjoyed the fact that someone was making a small statement. Anyway, I came to this realization tonight as I was turning books and mags over in Target... I love what this class has done to my thinking.

Call Me Blondi!

I really enjoyed today's group presentation although I missed the first few minutes in which I am assuming they introduced their topic. I thought I would share my experience as a blond. Yes, I have heard EVERY joke in the book- I challenge you to find a new one, and YES I am a NATURAL blond. I thought it was funny when the girls in class raised their hands to comment and shared that they had been "both"- it sounds so odd!

I like to think that blond is a state of mind. Somewhere someone coined the term "blond moment" because I am sure some blond did something dumb! But in thinking about it my 2 best friends are as brunette as can be and can totally be more "blond" then I am! Sometimes I think one of them plays the role to ease tension or get away with murder- but she is no dumb. My other BFF (ha ha haaaaa) probably has blond moments because of her athletic nature- did I mention she is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Judo and was undefeated in High School Wrestling in Washington State? NOT DUMB.

I too have "been both" and did notice a difference in the way people responded to me, and also the type of men that paid attention to me. I get cat-called all the time, but never experienced it more from my vehicle then when I had brown hair. Men like crazy would whistle or honk and holler at stops when I had my brown. With my blond hair on I get the uncomfortable stares and glances. I liked being a brunette, but in my heart (and genes) am blond. Patrons and that redneck maintenance man I mentioned call me "Blondi" and I like it.

Now for "Gingers": I will admitt that I totally didn't like my 4th grade best friend when I first saw her because of her red hair and freckles. I looked at her (in 4th grade!) and assumed she would be a total brat- prone to fits of rage and all. It is interesting that even so young, and in America, that stereotype spread. I'd actually heard of the English's taboo on red heads and find it interesting that Henry 8th was known for his flaming red hair, and his daughter with Anne Bolyen, Queen Elizabeth, inherited the red hair and is known as one of the best monarch's in England's history. Ya, I have a Tudors obsession. Although the "cursed" red hair came through her father, if it is true what they say that having a ginger mane is a sign that you had an adulterous mother- then perhaps Anne Boylen really did have an incestuous relationship with her brother. EeEwWwWwww!!!

So... You decide. Blond or Brunette? BUT CHOOSE WISELY OR YOU WILL DIE. Ha ha.

PS: Never color your hair so drastically because you are angry with your significant other. The box doesn't tell you how much hair you'll lose or how FRIED it will be when you decide to go back to your natural shade.

And in other more important news...

Our class discussion on Wednesday was pretty interesting, but I got a little lost trying to tie talking about China's tradefree zones (?) and conditions in factories, into the media. The fact that we know that sweat shops and factories exist doesn't mean that we are being lead on by the media, and since advertising caters to us I guess I just didn't see the connection from where the conversation started to where it ended up. For now I pretty much assume that the clothes I buy are more likely than not coming from a sweat shop, but I would never knowingly buy something from a work factory.

While we were on the topic though I thought of two things- the first is that very morning on the news Japanese Honda Execs. announced that they were going to try and sell Honda (or portions of it) to American companies (so much for the better foreign car!), and second- the big news of the morning was Michelle Obama and what she would be wearing to meet the Queen of England. !?!!?! "Reporters" kept on saying how excited they were that she would be sporting American-made fashions, from American designers, then we had the discussion in class. . .

JCrew is apparently a big one on her list, and the more we kept talking about Gap and JCrew, Banana, etc. and how they aren't even manufactured in America, I wondered- does that mean she was really wearing American clothing?? This woman who (according to the media) was going to show Europeans that Americans have a sense of fashion and pride for local designers was I guess wearing the most American thing she could! Sweatshop-outsourced, made in China, product of USA clothing. Snaps for us!

Gosh I get so bored with the news media making things bigger then they need to be and glorifying things that don't need it. Michelle Obama is not Jackie O. and no one will ever be, despite the media trying to draw the comparisons. Sure Jackie didn't wear a hat during her visit with the Queen, and yes, Mrs. Obama did go sleeveless (*gasp*), but really? REALLY? This is the day's "Top Story" ?
